Types of eyeliners
Eyeliners can be tricky for beginners as they need to be applied carefully to get the right look without streaking or smudging. Choosing the right type of eyeliner goes a long way in helping you create that perfect look.
Eye makeup requires precision, which means you should start with the ones that are the easiest to manage and then move on to the difficult ones. There are different types of eyeliners, and they come in many forms like pencils, twist sticks, bottles, pots, boxes, and felt tips. You can choose the one that suits you best and that you are most comfortable with using:
Liquid eyeliners
Liquid liners can be hard to handle as they tend to be runny and can cause streaks and smears if you aren’t careful. You need to keep your eyelids lowered or closed for some time to let it dry. They are available in bottles and also as pens:
- Bottles : Liquid eyeliners in bottles are available with different types of brushes. These liners should be used carefully as they tend to smudge and streak easily, and they take a lot of practice.
- Pens : These pens are filled with liquid liners and have thin tips; they are easier to use than bottles and brushes. The thin tips make it easy to start with a subtle look and then build the thickness you need.
Kohl eyeliners
Kohl liners are available as sticks or in boxes. They are smooth and have the consistency of thick cream or wax. Kohl also comes in a creamy form in pots, but these are harder to use.
Kohl pencils need to be sharpened and then blunted to soften them and prevent injury to the eyes. Kohl is much easier to apply, as you can layer it to create the intensity you want.
Gel eyeliners
Gel liners are thicker in consistency than liquid liners, making them easier to use. Gels can also come in the form of pots and pens.
- Gel pots : It needs to be applied with a thin brush. You need to close the pot after using as it can dry out quickly. They glide smoothly, are easier to blend and layer, and are perfect for the cat eyes, wings, and smoky-eyed looks.
- Gel pens : With these, the gel is applied easily, like using an eyebrow pencil. Gel liners, especially in the pen form, are also good for use on the waterline as they don’t streak and smudge like liquid liners.
Other eyeliners
There are powder eyeliners apart from the above-mentioned commonly used eyeliner products. There are also other liners with a different finish, like glitter liners, and you can also use kajal sticks to line your eyes.
You should pick the eyeliner that best suits your style, and you can also blend a variety of eyeliners to create the desired effect.
