The limitations of wearable tech
There are wearable technology products to tell us how well our dieting is working, watches that do more than just tell time, and glasses that do more than just protect our eyes. Although there are these advantages, wearable tech products also come with a few limitations that should also be considered when you are thinking of buying one of these products.
The limitations of wearable tech
There are numerous advantages to wearing a Fitbit or a smartwatch, but there are also a specific set of disadvantages. More than limitations, they are questions that make you wonder if these wearable tech products are really worth the investment. Here are some of the questions that come to mind while investing in wearable tech:
- Would you write an email using your smartwatch?
While your smartwatch can open your email and your band can let you know that you’ve received a new message, how do you go about responding to it? Smartwatches or wristbands have keyboards that are super small, making it difficult for people to respond to emails by typing. This is where the question comes in as to whether it is really worth it.
- Would you pick up a call using your smart glasses?
Even though this feature seems pretty cool and worth showing off, it is not always practical to answer a phone call using your glasses. Even though iPads and Android devices have many facets, wearable tech has the specific purpose of carrying technology “on you”. One question constantly remains with wearable tech, which is, “are these devices as versatile as smartphones?”
- Would you be able to access the internet on your smartwatch or smart glasses?
This is one of the most repetitive complaints users have with wearable tech, and it is for good reason. The size of the wearable tech is always much smaller than other tech products. The fact remains that users wouldn’t want to wear a piece of jewelry that is as big as a smartphone. This is why wearable tech products will have to be smaller in size, making it difficult for certain tasks (as simple as browsing the internet) to be accomplished.
The future of wearable tech
Apart from these questions, a pressing question of wearable tech is whether it will be as widely accepted as the other forms of technology, like smartphones. As of now, very few people understand the utility of wearable tech, which is why there is the question of it sticking around as well as growing in popularity.
Regardless of all these questions, there is definitely an exciting element about wearable technology that everyone understands. There are many products that are yet to become easily available to all. Even though wearable tech won’t be replacing smartphones as it was expected, the future is seemingly bright for the industry as it is gaining popularity by the day.
