How women’s fashion trends are linked with social aspects
The trends seen in the dressing styles year after year are usually very negligible. However, when the comparison is drawn between the transformations in the fashion world from one decade to another, there are significant changes that can be highlighted. In the country, the changes in the dressing trends have often marked a significant event in its history.
Since clothing is a means of providing an understanding of an individual’s background, therefore it is important to take a good look at the person’s clothing to get a better understanding of the culture, society and the community that they belong too. When it comes to the females, their clothing determines their progression in life.
One of the esteemed fashion designers suggested that fashion is not the thing that only exists in the dresses. It is directly related to one’s ideas and the manner in which one leads their life.
Some people do believe that the changes in fashion trends may have no effect on the society that one belongs to. Clothing is related to the beliefs and ideals of the time one belongs to and also speaks about the person adhering to the norms prevailing in their society based on their appearance.
In the women’s fashion world, trends came along with the Victorian corsets after the civil war. They were not just physically harmful but also put a lot of social limitations on women. When the women eventually understood the related dangers, they left the corsets. They had left the decorative clothing styles and got into the practical dressing as they got into the workforce.
When the woman started to protest for their rights, this ushered the start of the suiting for women that transformed the years of 1910 into the sophisticated ones. But this sophistication was put to an end by the shortening hemlines and emergence of the flappers. This provoked the entire nation to raise questions on the morality of the era.
During World War II, the clothing mandates created a uniform for the ones on the Homefront. After the war, the counter cultures like the hippies came into existence in order to escape the aftermath of the war. The beliefs and ideals of the hippies were contrasting which reflected from their clothing that often was not possible for the outsiders to understand.
The fashion trends brought about by the hippies is an example of those styles of dressings that provoked diverse reactions from society.
Some sections of the society supported those who wished to be innovative with their clothing styles. Over the flip side, there were others who opposed the innovative dressing sense.
Whatever the reaction was, the people did wonder from where the innovative ideas came from. What people fail to understand is that there are two means by which fashion trends surface: One is the cultural and social events that occurred in the nation’s history that resulted in the changes which were brought about in the world of fashion and the other is that evolution of fashion has marked changes in the society.
Here, we see that the historical events that have occurred in the country have a strong connection with today’s fashion trends. If one carefully analyses the changes from each decade then it is easy to understand the effect and the blocks of progression that every new trend has been bringing about for the women in the country.
